Albums of the Year 2016 – 15-11

15-11

15. Every Time I DieLow Teens

I’d never listened to this band because of their name. I thought they were some God-awful emo band. I’m very sorry, this album is ‘riffz for daiz’.

14. Fall of TroyOK

They released it for free? How awesome is that? It’s worth more than that though, pay for it for God’s sake. Really clever, exciting, just yes.

13. DéparteFailure, Subside

I tend to like it when I listen to a band on a whim and it makes my face

I tend to like it when I listen to a band on a whim and it makes my face gurn so hard it looks like I’m eating sour sweets whilst watching Meshuggah and Behemoth have a fight. This is that band for me. This album is extraordinary, and it’s great to see something come out of Australia that isn’t trying to mimic Karnivool or AC/DC. Seriously, just listen to it. It’s rank … yes!

12. ThriceTo be Everywhere is to be Nowhere

Marginally different to the previous release. This has the post-rock vibes that I enjoy, but is also catchy and features actual songs. Really great album from these guys.

11. DeftonesGore

Deftones are great aren’t they. This album took a while to sink in probably because it’s a bit more “post” than normal. But once it drops, boy is it a journey. I wish I was a flamingo.
