Northern Irish death metal band Rex Shachath have released their new Ep ‘Revocation of the Blood Elect‘ via French label Great Dane Records. The album tackles social issues such as the state of modern society and man’s exorbitant desire for wealth at the expense of our natural world. It was recorded, mixed and mastered by Joe Thompson at Sonic Forge Studio, Cardiff, Wales.
The title track thunders into existence like a huge-behemothic-Lovecraftian stomp. The upper lip immediately protrudes and the neck thickens just at the first few notes. That is the third track however, smack bang in the middle; before reaching this track you’ll likely have been thrown about like Bethesda’s rag-doll physics in a tornado.
Ben McCrow‘s guest appearance on “Within the Temple of Disgust” was a great idea. The instrumentals are great and focus on simplicity over intricacy; you won’t find an abundance of over-used blast beats here. The vocals are dark, dank, and brooding and perfectly suit the old school nature of the music.
In the wake of Behemoth‘s ‘The Satanist‘ extreme metal seem to be in a new lease of life. This EP displays the massive potential of the genre from an underground perspective, not just reliant on the big boys. There’s still a way to go but ‘Revocation of the Blood Elect‘ is heading well and truly in the right direction. A solid 8/10.
You can hear, and purchase, ‘Revocation of the Blood Elect‘ on the band’s BandCamp page.
