We Are Harlot initially appeared to be some form of musical revolution of mainman Danny Wornop‘s; a departure of the generic bland metal that Asking Alexandria personify in favour of something adding more depth, with an addition of slapped up rock n roll. Their debut album, released via Roadrunner Records, definitely nails the latter, but depth is something is severely lacks; instead ”We Are Harlot” finds itself wading in the paddling pool of edgy rock ‘n’ roll, with their aspiration of musical vibrancy mimicking that of Steel Panther instead of AC/DC.
Wornop‘s vocals should be commended and the music can have it’s moments. It gets repetitive too easily and a spark of originality would be desired. The musical direction Wornop finds himself in is a step in the right direction.
Verdict – 5/10 – It does have the hair whipping, fun induced frenzy that Harlot are after, however the reality does not achieve the vision.
