Mark Ronson‘s “Uptown Special” is an enjoyable delve into another part of Ronson‘s phone-book. His collaborations with other artists are generally crafted and even more well received. The vibe of the album, intentional or not, is one of naturalness; the whole affair feels like a jam in the studio, that you’ve been invited to witness. Made for enjoyment, few bursts of emotion asides from joy. Event he most miserable sod needs something to smile about and “Uptown Special” can definitely help you on it’s way. Not the greatest pop album in existence but remember who the alternatives are in this day and age; with that in mind Ronson seems to have been tainted by popularity and his true ambition and intelligence often hidden.
Verdict – 7/10 – It rings like an updated Stevie Wonder album, maybe that’s because he’s on it… Time to listen to some Stevie.
