1. Lunatic Soul – Walking on a Flashlight Beam
My favourite album of the year so far. It echoes back to what I said about delicacy and subtlety. “Walking on a Flashlight Beam” is in my opinion a masterpiece. There are so many layers interwoven into this piece of music, so many well crafted melodies and great series of progressions. I’d never heard of them before this year, and they’re so nostalgic I feel I’ve known them forever. The title track is absolutely brilliant. There’s no aggression here, just delicate beauty. Turn the lights off, headphones in, eyes closed, and not too loud; you’ll be transformed.
I’ve discovered a lot of new music this year, and a lot of new bands. Lunatic Soul were the one who made me think the most and impressed me even more so. There’s been a lot of anger, delicacy, aggression, intelligence and arrogance in this years pick but I feel this album will be a favourite for a long time.
The Top order never really follows suit, the lower 10 at least are all subjective. However, this album is definitely my favourite of this year, my only regret is I never got a chance to review it.
