Here are a few albums that didn’t make my list but I still enjoyed. Not just because I didn’t enjoy them as much as the others but perhaps didn’t give them enough time to embrace them properly (Judas Priest I am sorry!)
- Slash ft. Myles Kennedy & The Conspirators – World On Fire
Sorry Slash and Myles. As I much as I love these two musicians, the latter being one of my favourites, this album was just way too long. There were no outwardly bad tracks but Lord was it long. Needed trimming, the length of this should be a bonus edition, even then it’d be long. Whittle it down next time please and you’ll know doubt amaze me again.
- Judas Priest – Redeemer of Souls
Feels criminal not to mention the Priest. I enjoyed this album but definitely didn’t give it enough listens. My mistake, but it deserves a mention and will likely be in many other top lists.
- Animals As Leaders – The Joy of Motion
The titans in tech/progressive metal this era. They deserve a mention but there were just so many other albums I enjoyed more. Not something you can listen to on a whim but definitely a benchmark in technical bravado on their musical instruments.
- Run the Jewels – Run the Jewels 2
I don’t know much about hip-hop but for years my friend has been telling me of the two musicians involved in this duo; Killer Mike and El-P. If I’d had more of a chance to listen it’d probably have made the cut, but I still enjoyed it, though part of me feels I enjoyed the first album more… guess I’ll have to listen more.
- Skindred – Kill the Power
It’s Skindred. It’s always going to be fun at the least.
- Periphery – Clear (EP)
If Animals As Leaders aren’t your tech/progressive metal biscuit Periphery are.
- Down – Down IV – Part II (EP)
Riffs as one would expect. Kind of wishing they’d done an album now instead though, but at the same time it means more music dripped through.
- Monuments – The Amanuensis
More tech metal but by a band I’d never heard of until a few months ago. Definitely worth a listen!
