My Top 15 Albums of the Year, #3 – Dream Theater – Dream Theater

3. Dream Theater – Dream Theater

dreamTheaterAlb

Dream Theater‘s last album was… alright. It had it’s moments but ultimately felt like a bad attempt at recreated ‘Images and Words’. That’s why I was a little wary about this release. The single was cool and then when the artwork and title were revealed I was still a bit prudent. Then I got the album. Like so many times this year, how wrong I was. Bringing Mike Mangini fully into the fold was the best thing they have done recently, asides from this album. The drum fill on “Enigma Machine” solidified his place in the band, “Illumination Theory” also being a majestic 20 something minute phenomenon. Totally blown away by this and it refueled my love in Dream TheaterThey’re finally back to the heights they were meant for.
