My Top 15 Albums of 2013, #6 – Karnivool – Asymmetry

15. Karnivool – Asymmetry

Was first introduced to this band by persuasion of my mates shouting “Karnivool! Prog!!!” and thus I was a fan. All their albums evolve in a different way. Whilst ‘Themata’ was catchier and less progressive, ‘Sound Awake’ raised the bar and ‘Asymmetry’ launched it into new glorious heights. At a first listen it passes by curiously but repeated listens to the main hooks were what helped me: ‘Nachash’, ‘A.M War’, ‘We Are’, ‘The Refusal’, are probably the main ones. Though I could name them all now purely because they were granted the time to sink in. It’s like a game of pass-the-parcel and every round unravels a new layer and mystery, a mystery slightly more enticing than a ‘Fun-Size’ pack of Haribo.
