The Dillinger Escape Plan are one of the most brutal, fast and intricate bands around at the moment. This experimental and mathcore release reinforces that statement. Ben Weinman is as insane in his music writing as he is on stage, like a schizophrenic with a sugar rush. Examples can be found in album opener ‘Prancer’ which a monumentally blinding track with a disgustingly evil middle section. The title track however shows the bands ability to swap dynamics as be much softer, before throwing you blindly into ‘Hero Of The Soviet Union’. Easily one of the best metal bands around and if the introduction to ‘Nothing’s Funny’ doesn’t get you grooving you need to listen to it again. ‘Crossburner’ as well showing slower and brutal grooves with ever changing dynamics, one of the album’s greats. One of the most interesting bands around and one of the most energetic live bands ever.
Listen open minded, and face melted.
Verdict 4/5 Stars
